Background & Programme Description
The United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples is inviting applications from Indigenous individuals and representatives of Indigenous Peoples’ organisations to participate in two major UN meetings in 2027.
Selected participants will receive support for travel, accommodation and related expenses, in accordance with UN rules and procedures.
The meetings are:
- 26th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII): 10–21 May 2027 in New York, United States.
- 20th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP): 12–16 July 2027 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be Indigenous individuals or representatives of Indigenous Peoples’ organisations.
- Be actively involved in promoting and protecting Indigenous Peoples’ rights.
- Explain how their participation will support advocacy for their communities or organisations.
- Demonstrate a need for financial assistance with travel, accommodation and related expenses.
Applications from Indigenous persons with disabilities and Indigenous 2SLGBTQ+ persons are particularly encouraged.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:
- Representation: A clear mandate from the applicant’s community or organisation.
- Relevance: Engagement in human rights issues affecting Indigenous Peoples.
- Impact: Potential to strengthen advocacy and influence policy.

Support Provided
Selected Indigenous representatives may receive travel arrangements and a stipend to cover travel, accommodation and related expenses associated with attending the relevant UN meeting.
The support is subject to United Nations rules and procedures.
