Background & Job Description

Global Rights Compliance (GRC), founded in 2013, is a well-established international foundation dedicated to upholding international humanitarian law, criminal law, and business and human rights. Operating in over 45 countries, GRC focuses on conflict-affected and high-risk areas, offering innovative legal approaches to tackle some of the most complex global justice issues.

The Business and Human Rights arm of GRC—Business and Human Rights Compliance—collaborates with private sector entities, civil society, and governments to assess and mitigate human rights risks in business operations. A key focus is supporting due diligence frameworks, legal compliance, and policy development, especially in areas with vulnerable and marginalized populations.

In line with its commitment to justice, GRC is now hiring a Project Director – Forced Labour to lead its flagship project addressing forced labour in global supply chains. This role is instrumental in steering the strategy, implementation, and team management of the project.

Tasks

As Project Director, you will be responsible for the comprehensive leadership and oversight of GRC’s Forced Labour project. This involves direct engagement with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring project compliance, and mentoring a team of professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Lead discussions and offer expert insights into forced labour, including legal frameworks, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Project Coordination: Liaise with internal departments—Finance, Human Resources, Communications, and Monitoring & Evaluation—to ensure seamless project operations.
  • Team Management: Supervise and support a multidisciplinary project team. Guide team members through deliverables, mentor emerging talent, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Strategic Planning: Align project execution with GRC’s broader mission, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to pre-agreed methodologies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with civil society organizations, government agencies, private sector partners, and intergovernmental institutions to drive collaborative solutions.
  • Capacity Building: Organize training and support for civil society groups, particularly on workers’ rights and forced labour awareness.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in Law, Human Rights, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 7+ years of professional experience in business and human rights, with a specific focus on forced labour issues.
  • Proven expertise in combating state-imposed forced labour and promoting international labour rights.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage US-funded projects, including budgeting, reporting, and donor compliance.
  • Track record of successful engagement with civil society organizations, government stakeholders, and international institutions.
  • Experience in capacity building, especially within the context of workers’ rights.
  • A strong sense of initiative and the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to guide multicultural teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strong administrative and organizational capabilities to manage competing priorities.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory. Additional languages are a plus.
