Background & Job Description

Strengthening national routine immunization systems is essential to achieving the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) goals and ensuring equitable health coverage. To facilitate this, WHO plays a pivotal role in deploying highly skilled external consultants capable of providing technical support to its Member States.

This Routine Immunization Consultant Roster seeks to assemble a pool of professionals who can be quickly mobilized to support diverse country-level and regional immunization initiatives. WHO receives more than 100 technical assistance requests annually in this domain. These requests include everything from EPI policy development to strategic immunization planning, as well as evaluations and capacity building.

The consultancy provides the opportunity to contribute to meaningful, evidence-based health policy implementation across WHO-supported regions. The consultant will operate in a home-based setting with expected travel obligations based on assignment needs.

Tasks

Consultants will be assigned specific tasks based on country needs. Below are the key deliverables for the Routine Immunization Consultant role:

Implementation of Routine Immunization Strategies

  • Detailed implementation plan: Including milestones, resource requirements, and innovative methodologies.
  • Monthly progress updates: Documenting accomplishments, issues, and risk mitigation.
  • Evaluation report: Capturing outcomes, lessons learned, and proposed strategic modifications.

Development and Updating of National Immunization Strategies

  • Situational desk review: Analyze existing data, reports, and frameworks.
  • Stakeholder consultation report: Summarize inputs from national stakeholders.
  • Draft strategy: Create a comprehensive policy document with defined goals and action items.
  • Final deliverable: A refined, actionable strategic document.

Comprehensive EPI Reviews

  • Review protocol development: Establish methodology and data sources.
  • Action plan: A step-by-step implementation timeline for the review process.
  • EPI performance report: Deliver a data-driven, results-based analysis.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Essential:

  • Medical degree with a Master’s in Public Health, Health Policy, or a related field.

Desirable:

  • Advanced training in epidemiology, vaccinology, infectious diseases, or immunology.

Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in routine immunization, including project management, vaccine logistics, and capacity development.
  • Proven track record in designing and managing databases and tools for monitoring and evaluation.

Desirable:

  • Previous work experience with NGOs, UN agencies, or government health institutions is a significant asset.

Additional Information

Key Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of routine immunization programs and vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate immunization campaigns aligned with international standards.
  • Competence in disease surveillance, particularly case-based surveillance and Integrated Disease Surveillance (IDSR) frameworks.

Languages
