The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is hiring an Associate Programme Officer (P-2) for its Operations Coordination Department, Resource Mobilization and Partnership Subdivision in Bonn, Germany. This temporary six-month position, with the possibility of extension, is an opportunity for professionals with experience in partnerships, resource mobilization, and project coordination to contribute to global climate governance.
Background & Job Description
The UNFCCC secretariat plays a crucial role in supporting international climate negotiations and the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, and other climate initiatives. The Resource Mobilization and Partnerships (RMP) Unit is at the forefront of engaging stakeholders, mobilizing resources, and strengthening global climate partnerships to ensure adequate funding and strategic collaborations for climate action.
As an Associate Programme Officer, you will work under the direct supervision of the Manager (P-5) of the RMP Subdivision, contributing to resource mobilization strategies, donor relations, and internal coordination efforts. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring a coherent, organization-wide approach to partnerships and funding, enhancing UNFCCC’s impact in addressing climate change.
Tasks
In this role, you will:
- Support the implementation of the Resource Mobilization and Partnership strategy, including outreach to donors, internal coordination, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with Party and non-Party stakeholders to align funding and collaboration efforts with UNFCCC priorities.
- Assist in developing funding proposals, reports, presentations, and briefing notes to support resource mobilization and partnership-building.
- Conduct due diligence and risk assessment analyses related to partnerships and funding sources.
- Organize and facilitate meetings with institutional donors and partners, ensuring effective relationship management.
- Collect, analyze, and report on resource mobilization trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Participate in technical meetings, workshops, and seminars, representing the RMP Unit and contributing to knowledge-sharing efforts.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Required: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Alternative: A Bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in:
- Project planning, monitoring, and reporting
- Partnerships and resource mobilization
- International development or climate action initiatives
- Preferred:
- Experience in an international organizational setting.
- Background in climate finance, environmental governance, or sustainability.
- Experience in data analysis related to climate action and resource mobilization.
Additional Information
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
- Knowledge of another UN language (e.g., French, Spanish) is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits
- Indicative Net Monthly Salary: US$ 4,597 (plus 32% post adjustment based on duty station rates).
