Background & Job Description

The Green Climate Fund (GCF), established by the UNFCCC, is dedicated to assisting developing countries in their transition to a low-emission and climate-resilient future. The Regional Officer position is a crucial role based at the GCF’s headquarters in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea. This role is typically classified as a Junior-level international position and focuses on ensuring that the GCF’s efforts are country-driven and aligned with the needs of the developing nations it serves. The officer is expected to drive country engagement and support the development of transformational climate projects.


Tasks

The Regional Officer is primarily responsible for bridging the gap between developing countries and GCF’s financial resources. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and guiding the co-development of “Readiness” proposals to strengthen a country’s climate change strategies and build national capacities.
  • Analyzing country contexts, strategies, and capacity needs to support the origination of high-quality climate project pipelines.
  • Interacting with countries, their National Designated Authorities (NDAs), and accredited entities to facilitate the development and implementation of relevant projects/programmes.
  • Conducting analytical work to inform programming decisions and ensuring effective outreach and strategic engagement with regional partners.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Candidates should possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as economics, finance, sustainable development, climate change, or international relations.

Experience
