Background & Fellowship Description

The Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania is offering five Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships for the 2027–2028 academic year.

The fellowship is designed for humanities scholars who are no more than five years out of their doctorate. For 2027–2028, the annual interdisciplinary theme is “Empire.”

Fellows will teach one course in a humanities department or program at Penn, participate in the weekly Mellon Research Seminar, contribute to a public symposium, and take part in professional development activities. Each fellow is also appointed a faculty mentor.

Scholars of performance are eligible.

Applicants may be from the United States or other countries, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
