As a Research Assistant, you will support the Executive Director, Alternate Executive Director, and a team of advisors in research, policy analysis, administrative coordination, and event planning.

Tasks

The Research Assistant at the World Bank will handle diverse responsibilities, including:

Research & Policy Support

  • Conduct thorough research on World Bank projects, policies, and development issues to support decision-making.
  • Assist in literature reviews and collaborate with advisors to prepare briefing materials.
  • Analyze financial, policy, and operational documents to extract key insights for internal use.
  • Ensure UK government priorities are reflected in assessments of World Bank projects.

Administrative & Logistical Coordination

  • Independently manage workflow, scheduling, and correspondence for senior officials.
  • Draft, proofread, and format high-quality reports, memos, and policy briefs.
  • Organize meetings, take minutes, and follow up on action points with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Event Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support high-level meetings, including Annual Meetings (October) and Spring Meetings (April).
  • Coordinate visits of UK ministers, diplomats, and senior officials to the World Bank.
  • Act as a liaison between the World Bank, the UK Embassy, and UK government agencies.

Knowledge Management & Technical Support

  • Maintain internal databases to track UK positions and decisions.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, Webex, Teams, and other relevant software for daily tasks.
  • Assist in budget management and expense tracking for the office.
  • Provide backup support to the Senior Executive Assistant when required.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Minimum of a high school diploma and at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Undergraduate degree (preferred) in Political Science, Economics, International Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience conducting literature reviews and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to draft reports, correspondence, and official documents.
  • Previous experience in an international organization, government agency, or policy research institute is highly desirable.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under pressure while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with senior officials and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with World Bank policies, the IMF, or the UK government system is an asset.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and travel for Annual Meetings when required.
