Tasks
As a Communications Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Communications team and support various outreach activities, including:

Assisting in drafting and editing press releases, articles, blog posts, and other public information materials

Supporting the production and distribution of newsletters and other digital communication products

Helping manage UNEP’s social media accounts by preparing content, visuals, and scheduled posts

Conducting media monitoring and compiling relevant press coverage

Participating in the planning and execution of campaigns and special events

Assisting in the creation of visual content including infographics, presentations, and multimedia

Performing research related to communications strategies, audience outreach, and media trends

Supporting administrative and organizational tasks related to the Communications Unit
This internship is office-based with a hybrid work model, offering flexibility while ensuring engagement with the UNEP team.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in journalism, communications, international relations, or a related field

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field

Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation
Experience and Skills

No previous work experience is required, but familiarity with communications tools, digital media, or UN-related work is an asset

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English

Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) is an advantage

Social media awareness and basic content creation skills

Research and analytical skills

Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment

Detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn
Languages

Fluency in English is required

Knowledge of other official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset
