Tasks

As a Communications Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Communications team and support various outreach activities, including:

• Helping manage UNEP’s social media accounts by preparing content, visuals, and scheduled posts

• Conducting media monitoring and compiling relevant press coverage

• Participating in the planning and execution of campaigns and special events

• Assisting in the creation of visual content including infographics, presentations, and multimedia

• Performing research related to communications strategies, audience outreach, and media trends

• Supporting administrative and organizational tasks related to the Communications Unit

This internship is office-based with a hybrid work model, offering flexibility while ensuring engagement with the UNEP team.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in journalism, communications, international relations, or a related field

• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field

• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation

Experience and Skills

• No previous work experience is required, but familiarity with communications tools, digital media, or UN-related work is an asset

• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English

• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) is an advantage

• Social media awareness and basic content creation skills

• Research and analytical skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment

• Detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn

Languages

• Fluency in English is required

• Knowledge of other official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset
