The Communications Division oversees the foundation’s global communications strategy, with the Internal Communications team playing a vital role in connecting the global workforce to the shared mission, shaping the culture, and elevating the employee experience. The Director will lead this effort, specifically managing the internal narrative around the organization’s long-term transformation and ultimate closure. Tasks

The Director is responsible for setting the vision and execution across several critical areas:

  • Strategy and Vision: Leading the development and execution of a comprehensive internal communications strategy that ensures clarity, empathy, and shared purpose during transformation.
  • Leadership Communications: Serving as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and ELT on organizational changes, cultural communications, and employee engagement, helping them communicate authentically and effectively.
  • Narrative and Culture: Defining and stewarding a cohesive internal story that reinforces optimism, trust, and alignment with the foundation’s mission and legacy.
  • Engagement and Events: Designing and delivering high-impact internal moments, such as the Annual Employee Meeting and all-staff engagements, to build belonging and celebrate impact.
  • Team and Capability Building: Overseeing and empowering a talented global internal communications team, and developing frameworks and training to strengthen communication skills across all levels of leadership.
  • Change Management: Partnering with the Office of the CEO, the People function, and the Foundation Strategy Office to deliver clear, coordinated communications around key initiatives and organizational change.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Essential: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Organizational Development, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Essential: 15+ years of senior-level experience in internal or employee communications within large, complex, and global organizations.
  • Proven success leading communications strategies that drive engagement, cultural alignment, and organizational transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and advising senior executives on leadership communications, change management, and employee engagement.
  • Expertise in translating complex strategies into clear, inspiring, and actionable narratives.
  • Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editorial judgment skills.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise and employee communications best practices, particularly how to build trust and resilience during uncertainty.

Additional Information

This senior position is based in Seattle, WA, with an option to work from the Washington D.C. office. The annual salary range is $261,700 to $405,700 USD (with the higher range of $285,300 to $442,100 USD for Seattle/D.C.). The role requires the ability to travel up to 30% domestically and globally as needed.
