Background & Job Description

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a global leader in international development cooperation, has announced a 6-month paid internship opportunity with the Secretariat of the Global Shield against Climate Risks (GS). Launched in 2022 under Germany’s G7 presidency in collaboration with the Vulnerable Twenty Group of Finance Ministers (V20), the Global Shield initiative aims to address growing climate risks and help countries prepare and respond to losses and damages caused by climate change.

The Global Shield (GS) promotes financial protection tools that enable swift and reliable responses before or after climate-related disasters. Its vision is to support governments, communities, businesses, and households in building resilience and reducing vulnerability.

Interns will join a dynamic team working across the GS Secretariat’s three core areas:

  1. Political Leadership Support – Coordinating with the GS Board.
  2. Technical and Implementation Hub (GS-CH) – Driving coordination and knowledge-sharing.
  3. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) – Advising GS partner countries.

This internship presents a rare opportunity for young professionals to engage directly in real-time development and climate governance efforts at a high level.
