The Business Optimization Unit (BOU) at VFI plays a crucial role in supporting innovation, scaling, and the growth of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). This unit enhances project management, technical training, product development, and institutional growth strategies. As a Financial and Client Education Research Intern, you will assist in the development and implementation of financial literacy programs, ensuring that communities worldwide have access to effective financial education tools.
This internship is designed to provide practical experience in research, data analysis, knowledge management, and funding strategy development. You’ll collaborate with experienced professionals in the microfinance and development sector, gaining valuable insights into the field of financial education.
Remote Research Internship at World Vision – ($800/Month)
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
Research & Data Collection:
- Conduct research to assess the current financial education capabilities of VisionFund International (VFI) and its Microfinance Institutions (MFIs).
- Review existing financial education tools and programs from VFI’s Global Center Library and other international sources.
- Gather and organize information on best practices in financial literacy, client education, and economic empowerment.
Knowledge Management & Content Development:
- Create a centralized library of financial education resources.
- Identify and interview subject-matter experts within VFI and MFIs to understand past projects and lessons learned.
- Develop case studies, white papers, and best practice documents to guide future financial literacy programs.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Community Engagement:
- Assist in building a Community of Practice by engaging professionals in the financial literacy space.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing discussions and compile insights from industry leaders.
- Work with VFI’s teams to develop a multi-language financial education framework for global implementation.
Funding & Business Development Research:
- Identify potential funding sources and grants to support financial literacy initiatives.
- Map out funding opportunities aligned with VFI’s mission and programs.
- Assist in drafting funding proposals and sponsorship outreach materials.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- Current student or recent graduate (within two years) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, International Development, Public Policy, Research, or a related field.
- Strong academic background in research methodologies, data analysis, and knowledge management.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and data visualization tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Passion for international development, economic empowerment, and microfinance.
Additional Information
- Location: Remote within the US (Applicants must reside in states where World Vision is registered as an employer: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OR, TN, TX, VA, WA).
- Internship Duration: May 27, 2025 – August 22, 2025
- Work Hours: Flexible (24-40 hours per week, full-time or part-time options available)
- Stipend: $800 per month (unpaid but offers a stipend for US-based interns)
- Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be eligible to work in the US (US Citizen, Resident, or F1 Visa Holder)
- Must have a valid US Social Security Number
- Must commit to at least 24 hours per week for the entire internship duration
- Must adhere to World Vision’s Christian Statement of Faith
- Must be willing to use own electronic devices for internship work
