Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently inviting applications for the Digital Transformation Internship 2025, a flexible and fully remote opportunity that welcomes global applicants. Hosted under the Executive Office’s Chief Digital Office (CDO), this internship is part of UNDP’s mission to lead the digital evolution in global development by promoting inclusive and ethical use of technology.
As digital transformation becomes a core enabler for sustainable development, UNDP has positioned itself at the forefront of this shift. With the implementation of the UNDP Digital Strategy 2022–2025, the organization is building digital capacity in over 170 countries. Interns joining this program will actively support that mission, working across areas such as inclusive digital ecosystems, AI readiness, digital governance, data infrastructure, and internal change management.
The start date is flexible and internships are accepted on a rolling basis through August 31, 2025. Internships may begin as early as March 2025 and will run for three months, with the potential for full-time or part-time arrangements.

Tasks
Interns will be assigned to specific workstreams aligned with their expertise and interests. Core areas of engagement include:
1. Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems

Support the creation of rights-based, inclusive digital ecosystems.

Research and review content on digital inclusion, ethical AI, connectivity, and public digital goods.

Assist in shaping digital infrastructure projects and governance frameworks.

Contribute to knowledge management and advocacy through blogs, talking points, and social media content.
2. Country Office Support & Capacity Building

Assist with digital and AI readiness assessments across UNDP partner countries.

Support the design and implementation of data strategies, AI policies, and digital infrastructure.

Contribute to digital literacy and capacity-building initiatives for governments and UNDP staff.
3. Digital Strategy Implementation

Analyze the implementation of UNDP’s Digital Strategy through qualitative and quantitative metrics.

Support internal and external positioning of UNDP’s digital leadership.

Help manage digital resources such as UNDP’s digital guides and capacity development tools.
4. Business Operations
-
Assist with procurement, finance, recruitment processes, and operational workflows.

Monitor project implementation progress and propose improvements for operational efficiency.

Support event coordination (workshops, travel arrangements, and team meetings).
5. Thought Leadership, Partnerships, and Strategic Communications

Research and map technology companies, nonprofits, and foundations for potential collaboration.

Draft outreach materials, concept notes, speeches, and pitch decks for global digital initiatives.

Help plan communication campaigns and identify digital storytelling opportunities.
6. Product Design and Digital Tools (including AI)

Assist with the design and testing of digital products (apps, platforms, web tools).

Work with development teams and UNDP partners to scope new digital solutions.

Conduct user testing and support country-level product rollouts.
7. UNDP Transformation: Internal Change Management

Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms and internal communications.

Track progress on digital change initiatives.

Help integrate digital tools across UNDP programs globally.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:

Enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s level or higher), or
-
In the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree program, or
-
Recently graduated (within 1 year) with a Bachelor’s or higher-level degree.
Experience
-
Experience or strong interest in one or more of the workstreams listed above.

Familiarity with digital development, governance, data management, or AI is a plus.

Prior experience with research, project management, design thinking, or communications is beneficial.
