Background & Job Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is looking for a talented Visual Communications and Graphic Design Analyst to join their Climate Hub Communications team. This is a one-year, full-time contract to strengthen the visibility of the crucial UNDP Climate Promise initiative. The analyst will be the focal point for all visual communications, developing high-quality, creative visual assets that effectively communicate UNDP’s climate work to a diverse global audience, including policymakers and the general public. The position is a Home-Based role, with coordination and reporting through New York, United States, and is classified as an IPSA-9 contract.

Tasks

The Visual Communications and Graphic Design Analyst will be responsible for a range of strategic and creative duties, including:

  • Serving as the focal point for all visual communications, ensuring compliance with UNDP’s branding and visual identity standards.
  • Designing and laying out reports, publications, and infographics for both print and digital platforms.
  • Producing engaging visual content, such as animated graphics, GIFs, presentations, and short social media videos.
  • Providing creative direction and producing multimedia content for digital advocacy campaigns and storytelling initiatives.
  • Exploring and utilizing AI-assisted design tools (like Adobe Firefly, Midjourney) for rapid concept development and campaign prototyping.
  • Offering guidance to external graphic designers to ensure alignment with UNDP design standards.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Environmental Sciences, International Development, or a related field.
  • A First-level University Degree (Bachelor’s) in the afore-mentioned areas combined with an additional two years of relevant professional experience will be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years (with a Master’s degree) or 4 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) of relevant professional experience in generating communications, communication strategies, and advocacy material across various media (print, video, websites).
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic production from conceptualization to published/printed product, including knowledge of printing processes.
  • Proven expertise in graphic design, video editing, and multimedia content production, specifically using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or similar software).
  • Demonstrated experience with the production of social media-friendly videos for digital channels.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva and modern AI-assisted design tools.
  • A basic understanding of sustainable development, environmental management, and climate change issues is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must submit a portfolio containing visual samples of designs and visual communications content.
