Tasks

The core responsibilities of the Senior Project Manager include:

  • Project Delivery and Performance: Implementing the approved project plan, managing the production of required outputs, and ensuring project delivery meets strict quality standards. This includes contract management and supervising work packages.

  • Quality Assurance & Risk Management: Working to ensure project compliance with audit requirements and proactively identifying and advising on mitigating measures for potential risks and issues.
  • Personnel Management: Leading, motivating, and managing the project team, ensuring staff capacity is built and project teams function effectively.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Education: An Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or International Development is typically required. A First-level University Degree (Bachelor’s) combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  • Certification: Professional certification in Project Management (such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, PRINCE2 Foundation, or PMP) is often required or a significant asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years (or more, depending on academic credentials) of progressively responsible experience in project development and management is required.
  • Experience in managing complex projects/programmes, particularly in infrastructure, construction, or a humanitarian/development context, is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management, financial oversight, and managing diverse project teams is essential.
  • Prior experience working for UNOPS or a UN agency is a strong advantage.
