Background & Job Description
We are advertising internship opportunities under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Inclusive Growth Programme, hosted within the Regional Bureau for Africa.
This internship programme is designed for students and recent graduates interested in economic transformation, development policy, and regional integration across Africa. It offers two international remote roles and one local in-person placement, providing flexible access to candidates across different regions.
Interns will be placed within the Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa, supporting projects aligned with Africa’s long-term development frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063.
Tasks
Interns will work across one of the following thematic areas:
1. Blue Economy & Climate-Resilient Growth
- Conduct research on sustainable ocean economies and climate-trade linkages
- Support preparations for Africa Blue Economy Week
- Draft policy briefs, concept notes, and technical reports
- Coordinate with regional stakeholders and institutions
2. Development Planning & Governance Systems
- Support development planning frameworks across African countries
- Manage SDG and Agenda 2063 data systems
- Prepare analytical reports, dashboards, and policy briefs
- Assist with governance and institutional strengthening tools
3. Regional Value Chains & Trade Integration
- Conduct research on SMEs, trade systems, and inclusive growth
- Support AfCFTA-related policy initiatives
- Participate in stakeholder consultations
- Draft reports on regional economic transformation
Core Responsibilities (All Interns)

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Enrolled in a postgraduate programme (Master’s level) OR
- Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in:
- Economics
- Public Policy
- Development Studies
- Related fields
Experience
- No mandatory professional experience required
- Exposure to development work or research is an advantage
Skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Teamwork and adaptability
- Cultural awareness and interest in global development
- Familiarity with SDGs is beneficial
