Professionals with expertise in programme evaluation, international development, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), research, and capacity-building may be interested in the latest UNITAR Consultant Vacancy 2026. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is recruiting consultants to join its Independent Evaluation Roster under the Planning, Performance Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit (PPME). This opportunity is ideal for experienced evaluators who are passionate about assessing development programmes, strengthening organizational learning, and improving the effectiveness of international training initiatives. Successful roster candidates may be contacted as evaluation assignments become available, providing opportunities to work on high-impact projects that contribute to the United Nations’ global development agenda.
Background & Job Description
The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) serves as the dedicated training and capacity-development arm of the United Nations. Its mission is to enhance the effectiveness of the UN system and its partners by delivering high-quality learning programmes, research, and innovative capacity-building solutions that support sustainable development, peace, and international cooperation.
Within UNITAR, the Planning, Performance Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit (PPME) plays a critical role in strengthening organizational accountability, programme performance, and institutional learning. The unit oversees strategic planning, corporate performance monitoring, and the Institute’s independent evaluation function. It also supports decentralized evaluations carried out by various UNITAR programmes while ensuring that evaluations adhere to internationally recognized standards and best practices.
To strengthen its pool of qualified experts, UNITAR is establishing an Independent Evaluation Roster. Rather than recruiting for a single vacancy, the organization will review roster applications whenever new evaluation assignments arise. Consultants selected from the roster will conduct independent evaluations of training and learning-related projects, helping UNITAR assess project relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, coherence, and sustainability.

Applicants are encouraged to prepare a strong application package that clearly demonstrates their evaluation expertise, research capabilities, technical knowledge, and familiarity with international development frameworks.
