Background & Job Description

UNICEF is the United Nations agency responsible for protecting the rights and wellbeing of children and young people worldwide. Through its Office of Global Insight and Policy (Innocenti), UNICEF generates research, innovation, and evidence that inform global policies affecting children and adolescents.

Following recommendations from the Leading Minds Conference on Climate Action, UNICEF Innocenti launched the Youth Fellowship on Climate Education, an 18-month initiative designed to identify and strengthen innovative youth-led climate education “Bright Spots” from different regions of the world.

As the Fellowship progresses into its implementation phase, UNICEF is seeking a Fellowship Coordination Consultant to support the overall coordination, learning journey, curriculum development, documentation, and knowledge-sharing activities of the programme. The consultant will work closely with fellows, senior fellows, advisory group members, facilitators, researchers, and strategic partners to ensure that learning activities remain well coordinated and aligned with UNICEF’s broader work on climate education, youth participation, and systems change.

This consultancy also supports the development of major knowledge products, including the Bright Spots Report, Future of Climate Education Report, Global Policy Brief, Future of Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) outputs, the Climate Education Atlas, and storytelling materials that amplify youth voices and evidence-based solutions.

Tasks

The Fellowship Coordination Consultant will support multiple aspects of programme coordination, research, and knowledge management throughout the Fellowship.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the overall Fellowship learning journey.
  • Supporting collaboration among fellows, senior fellows, mentors, facilitators, and advisory group members.
  • Developing and adapting learning materials, curriculum resources, and facilitation tools.
  • Organizing masterclasses, workshops, webinars, mentoring sessions, and peer-learning activities.
  • Documenting learning outcomes, research findings, and emerging themes.
  • Identifying and synthesizing youth-led climate education “Bright Spots.”
  • Coordinating the development of major Fellowship reports and knowledge products.
  • Supporting policy-relevant publications and evidence synthesis.
  • Managing partnerships and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Coordinating Fellowship participation in major international climate events, including Climate Week NYC, COP31, and Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) processes.
  • Supporting knowledge management, reporting, and programme documentation.
  • Translating complex research findings into accessible communication materials for diverse audiences.

The consultant will help ensure that the Fellowship functions as a connected and collaborative learning platform while supporting UNICEF’s long-term climate education objectives.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Applicants should possess academic qualifications relevant to education, climate, research, or international development.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies.

  • Experience developing outreach materials and knowledge products.
  • Proficiency with digital collaboration platforms and online research tools.
  • Experience supporting climate initiatives or youth networks.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Experience working within multicultural and international environments.
  • Fluency in English.

Knowledge of additional United Nations languages and previous experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies are considered desirable but not mandatory.

Additional Information

This consultancy is offered as a 12-month home-based contract, providing flexibility while working with UNICEF Innocenti’s international research and policy teams. Applicants will collaborate with experts, researchers, youth leaders, and global partners across multiple countries and time zones.
