About the Position

The successful candidate will serve as Deputy Director – Strategy, Planning & Management (DD-SPM), providing strategic leadership across the Foundation’s continental Policy, Government Relations & Partnerships strategy while also supporting the Ethiopia Country Office.

Reporting to the Ethiopia Country Office Director with a dotted reporting line to the Director of Policy, Government Relations & Partnerships, the Deputy Director will lead strategy development, portfolio management, operational planning, monitoring and evaluation, budgeting, organizational effectiveness, and cross-functional coordination.

The position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

The Deputy Director will play a central role in translating strategy into measurable impact across Africa.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading strategy development and implementation
  • Supporting annual and multi-year planning
  • Managing programme portfolios and budgets
  • Strengthening monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems
  • Developing strategic performance dashboards
  • Advising senior leadership on programme performance
  • Coordinating cross-country and regional initiatives
  • Managing grants and investment portfolios
  • Building partnerships with governments and regional organizations
  • Leading and mentoring high-performing teams
