Applications are now open for the ICANN Fellowship Program 2026–2027, offering individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities the opportunity to participate in the global Internet governance ecosystem. The Fellowship is designed to strengthen participation in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) multistakeholder community through training, mentoring, and sponsored participation at ICANN Public Meetings.

The programme welcomes applicants from all regions and sectors who are interested in Internet policy, domain name systems (DNS), digital governance, and the security and stability of the global Internet.

About the ICANN Fellowship Program

The ICANN Fellowship Program aims to develop a diverse global community of Internet leaders by providing participants with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to become active contributors to ICANN’s policy development processes.

Successful Fellows receive mentoring, complete capacity-building activities, and participate in ICANN Public Meetings while building long-term professional networks. Travel support is provided for in-person meetings where applicable.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Have an interest in or be actively engaged in ICANN’s work relating to Internet policy, the Domain Name System (DNS), and Internet security and stability.
  • Complete the required ICANN Learn courses.
  • Not participate in another ICANN-supported travel programme at the time of selection.
  • Have received no more than two previous ICANN Fellowships (additional conditions apply for returning Fellows).

Fellowship Requirements

Successful Fellows are expected to:

  • Participate in the Fellowship mentoring programme.
  • Complete required ICANN Learn courses.
  • Attend the ICANN Public Meeting and all mandatory Fellowship activities.
  • Engage with the ICANN community and Fellowship alumni.
  • Complete the post-meeting evaluation.
  • Continue contributing to ICANN policy development and community activities after the Fellowship.

ICANN88 Community Forum Applications

The current application round is for the ICANN88 Community Forum, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 13–18 March 2027.

  • Applications Opened: 21 July 2026
  • Application Deadline: 21 August 2026 (23:59 UTC)
  • Selected Fellows Announced: 10 November 2026
  • Meeting Dates: 13–18 March 2027

Future Fellowship Rounds

The next scheduled Fellowship round is for:

ICANN89 Policy Forum – Vancouver, Canada

  • Applications Open: 5 November 2026
  • Applications Close: 5 December 2026
  • Meeting Dates: 14–17 June 2027

Please note that only previous ICANN Fellowship alumni are eligible to apply for the Policy Forum Fellowship.

Special Fellowship Awards

The programme also recognizes exceptional participants through:

  • Tarek Kamel Fellowship Recognition for outstanding returning Fellows.
  • Paul Muchene Fellow Award for selected Fellows from the African region with a technical background.
