Position Overview
Position: Program Officer, Legal Strategies
Location: Irvine, California, USA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Three days in the office and two days working remotely)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $130,000–$137,000 per year
The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Director and Program Manager to develop and implement global legal strategies that support climate action. This role combines research, grantmaking, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
The Program Officer will:
- Conduct research and analysis on climate law, policy, and emerging global trends.
- Support the design and implementation of strategic legal initiatives.
- Evaluate grant proposals and participate in grantmaking decisions.
- Build relationships with grantee organizations and monitor funded projects.
- Collaborate with legal experts, governments, philanthropic partners, and international organizations.
- Prepare reports, presentations, strategic briefs, and funding recommendations.
- Track grants, budgets, project timelines, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, travel, and consultant contracts.
- Support strategic planning and organizational priorities across the Legal Strategies team.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree (required).
- A law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, or international equivalent) is strongly preferred.
- At least five years of professional experience in legal practice, governance, public interest law, climate policy, environmental law, or legal philanthropy.
- Knowledge of U.S. and international legal systems.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Experience working across diverse teams and managing multiple priorities.
