About the Role
The Country Director will provide overall leadership for World Relief’s operations in Chad, overseeing programme implementation, strategic planning, business development, financial management, staff leadership, security, donor relations, and organizational growth.
The successful candidate will represent the organization with government institutions, United Nations agencies, donors, local partners, churches, and other humanitarian organizations while ensuring programmes deliver measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities
The Country Director will:
- Lead and implement the country strategy.
- Manage humanitarian and development programmes.
- Build relationships with government agencies, donors, NGOs, churches, and community partners.
- Identify new funding opportunities and support proposal development.
- Oversee grant management and donor compliance.
- Strengthen organizational systems, policies, and internal controls.
- Ensure effective Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL).
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and audit preparation.
- Oversee safeguarding, child protection, fraud prevention, and ethical compliance.
- Ensure staff safety and security in a complex operating environment.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Promote localization and strengthen local partner capacity.
- Represent World Relief at national and international coordination meetings.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A university degree in a relevant discipline.
- At least 7 years of progressive leadership experience in international relief and development or 10 years of senior business management experience.
- Extensive experience managing donor-funded programmes.
- Experience working with major donors including the U.S. Government, United Nations, ECHO, and the European Union.
- Strong strategic planning and resource mobilization skills.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional proficiency in English and French.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to relocate and reside in Chad.
- A strong commitment to the Christian mission and values of World Relief.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following will have an advantage:
- Master’s degree.
- Experience working in fragile or conflict-affected countries.
- Experience managing remote teams.
- Arabic language proficiency.
- Strong intercultural leadership experience.
