Our New York Office serves as the primary liaison between the UN Foundation and the UN system and diplomatic community in New York. We closely monitor, analyze, and engage with the UN’s daily operations while providing strategic support to the Secretary-General’s leadership initiatives. Key areas of focus include women’s and children’s health, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting Our Common Agenda, strategic communication efforts, and fostering partnerships with the private sector.

As a UN Relations and Policy Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting our office by providing comprehensive policy analysis, conducting research, and assisting in event coordination. This internship offers a unique opportunity to delve into several priority issues of the Foundation while gaining valuable hands-on experience.

This is a paid internship opportunity spanning from May 28, 2024, to September 2, 2024. Compensation is set at $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate or bachelor’s degree program, and $20 per hour for those enrolled in a graduate program.

This position is remote, and applicants must have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.

Essential Functions:

  • Attend and provide coverage of virtual UN meetings and side events relevant to UN Foundation priorities, synthesizing key themes and takeaways.
  • Monitor news and blogs concerning UN issues to keep staff informed about upcoming UN activities, meetings, and events.
  • Assist in tracking developments within UN bodies such as the Security Council, General Assembly, and ECOSOC.
  • Compile weekly UN update emails for internal distribution.
  • Conduct research and draft background documents and meeting briefs.
  • Participate in internal team meetings and offer support as needed.
  • Assist in the planning, execution, and follow-up of UN Foundation webinars and meetings.

Selection Criteria:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship period or have graduated from a college or university within 8 months of the internship start date.
  • Demonstrated interest in the UN and International Affairs is essential, with a strong preference for interest in Sustainability, International Development, and/or the non-profit sector.
  • Proficiency in research, writing, analysis, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience in event planning and execution is preferred.
  • A fast and organized learner with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle stress.
  • Must possess a personal laptop computer and have reliable internet access.
  • Available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
