About Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL):

DIAL focuses on promoting a more equitable world by prioritizing the rights and aspirations of individuals in the realm of digital transformation. We facilitate the design of digital systems and tools that cater to societal needs through research, demonstrations, and policy advocacy. Collaborating with leading digital development champions globally, such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and others, DIAL aims to maximize participation, agency, choice, and trust in digital systems and governance, particularly emphasizing effective data exchange systems and robust data governance.

Position Overview:

DIAL’s research team plays a pivotal role in offering practical guidance and actionable insights into people-centered digital transformation approaches. We are seeking an Associate Director who will provide expert technical guidance to DIAL’s research portfolio and take on leadership responsibilities for managing specific research initiatives. The role entails advising on DIAL’s overall research agenda, bridging the gap between the research, policy, and technology teams, and consistently contributing to evidence-based research endeavors. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to stay informed about policy developments, understand partnership dynamics, and effectively lead a team with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Research (50%)

  • Oversee multiple research projects across diverse domains and geographies, ensuring alignment with DIAL’s research objectives and maintaining the coherence and quality of project outputs.
  • Foster strategic connections with leading thinkers and key partners to prioritize DIAL’s research agendas.
  • Monitor dynamic trends in digital transformation and data governance to incorporate relevant topics into DIAL’s research portfolio through regular strategic planning processes.

Technical Advisory (20%)

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor to the research team, translating technical insights for various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and strategic inputs into the research team’s strategy and annual workplans.
  • Facilitate cross-team collaborations to translate research insights into practical resources for policy, technology, and country engagement teams.

Project Management (20%)

  • Proactively seek funding and partnership opportunities to support DIAL’s research projects.
  • Take ownership of planning and overseeing specific research program workplans.
  • Mentor team members in research design and implementation.

Other (10%)

  • Lead efforts to communicate technical research findings in clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to DIAL-wide strategy and organizational development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in business, information technology, international relations, or related fields.
  • 8-10 years of professional experience in geopolitical affairs and digital development.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities in multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of conveying complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and implement work assignments under pressure and within tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with effective interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining partnerships in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress effectively.
  • Must adhere to regular attendance/tardiness policy.
