For each child, solutions are imperative.

UNICEF’s fundamental objective is to champion every child’s rights globally, embedding this commitment in all aspects of its operations, advocacy, and programming. The equity approach, prioritizing the most marginalized and excluded children and families, translates this commitment into actionable measures. Equity, to UNICEF, means ensuring every child has an equal opportunity to thrive, devoid of discrimination or bias.

Any disparity in a child’s life violates their rights across social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions. Investing in the health, education, and protection of marginalized populations not only empowers individual children but also fosters sustained national growth and stability. This emphasis on equity is pivotal, accelerating progress towards realizing the universal human rights of all children, as mandated by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while fostering equitable national development.

Job Context:

UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight was established in September 2022 through the amalgamation of two former UNICEF offices: the Office of Research-Innocenti, and the Office of Global Insight and Policy. This consolidation brings together UNICEF’s premier research and foresight expertise to establish a unified office aimed at expanding the organization’s knowledge base and capacity to act based on evidence. UNICEF perceives research and foresight as complementary functions that deepen understanding of present complexities and inform planning for the future of children.

UNICEF Innocenti conducts and commissions research on emerging or ongoing issues relevant to children and child rights. The office integrates research and global trends analyses to influence policies, programs, and advocacy efforts, as well as innovations, shaping the organization’s future strategies and vision along with the broader child rights agenda among governments, private sector entities, and other institutions. UNICEF Innocenti employs foresight to guide the agenda for children, identifying emerging trends and enhancing comprehension of critical issues affecting girls and boys.

It serves as a primary resource for advising UNICEF and a diverse array of stakeholders, including governments, the United Nations, private sector entities, civil society, and children and young people themselves, amidst the ever-evolving global economic, political, and security landscape. UNICEF Innocenti also endeavors to lead global discourse by fostering an enabling environment and platform for children and young people, alongside global influencers and decision-makers, to translate their contributions into future strategies, policies, and actions of UNICEF and the wider world. Thus, positioning children and UNICEF at the forefront of the global conversation through prominent external engagement, communication, and influence.
